Consulting & Templates
Your estimating software is only as good as the templates behind it. Roof.education helps commercial roofing contractors build, clean up and maintain estimating templates that match how their crews actually install roofs, and trains their estimators to use them with confidence. The work is done by a commercial roofing estimator, for commercial roofing estimators, after hours and around your schedule.
Custom Template Building
We build complete template libraries (often called “groups” in estimating software) for the systems and manufacturers you actually bid.
What we’ve built
- Single-ply systems: TPO, PVC and EPDM, including fully adhered, mechanically fastened, fleeceback and induction-welded metal retrofit assemblies
- Modified bitumen (SBS): torch-applied, hot-applied and cold-applied two-ply systems
- Fabric-reinforced coatings systems
- Tapered insulation conditions
- Standing seam metal
- Templates across the major single-ply and modified manufacturers, so estimators can switch manufacturers without rebuilding a takeoff
How it’s built
- Real product names instead of generic placeholders, so material lists read the way your supplier quotes them
- Your labor rates and labor groupings built in, including keeping a familiar legacy naming and labor structure where your team prefers it
- Separate re-roof and new construction databases
- Condition-level details that are easy to miss: wood blocking and nailers, coverboard at walls and curbs, perimeter and edge metal, sheet metal fasteners, insulation at parapets and rising walls
- Every new template is tested before release, then reviewed with your estimators and adjusted
- A shareable master template list that tracks every template, its manufacturer, date and testing status
The process
- Discovery: a short questionnaire on how your team uses the software today, so ongoing work is not disrupted
- Review: read-only access to your current estimates and database
- Proof of concept: one template for one system, drafted, reviewed by your team, then refined. This sets realistic time expectations for the rest
- Build-out: the remaining templates, released in regular batches with update notes
- Ongoing support: new templates, fine-tuning and fixes as specs, products and your preferences change
Live Training
Training is built around your estimators and the projects they’re bidding right now.
Formats
- Live virtual sessions, one-on-one or small group, scheduled in the evening around your workday
- Virtual seminars for your whole estimating team
- Training videos your estimators can rewatch anytime
What’s covered
- Getting the most out of your estimating software and your new templates
- Takeoff workflow and database basics
- Working live bids together: bid reviews, addendum reviews and final bid checks before submission
- Spec review and how specification requirements carry into the estimate
- Troubleshooting software and material list issues as they come up
What You Get
- A template library built for your systems, manufacturers, labor and naming
- Tested templates and a master list your whole team can reference
- Estimators trained on real projects, not just demos
- An experienced estimator to call on for reviews, updates and questions
- Flexible scheduling and straightforward monthly billing
